Sourcing denim and jeans from Bangladesh: what to know
Reviewed guide · updated 23 Sept 2026Bangladesh is a major sourcing base for denim and jeans, and this SupplySpark page lists 66 suppliers, 70% of them supported by independent registry, customs or reviewed evidence. Dhaka is the dominant location in the dataset with 57 suppliers, while representative manufacturers also operate in Tongi, Gazipur, Madhabpur and Chattogram. The supplier base spans garment factories, integrated denim groups and fabric mills, so buyers should first decide whether they need finished jeans, denim fabric, or a vertically integrated partner. Published order minimums vary sharply: among 31 suppliers that state one, 11 are above 1,000 units, 10 are 201–500, and five are 50 units or fewer. That spread makes early qualification important before sampling.
Choose the right type of denim supplier
The dataset includes 43 manufacturers, 22 manufacturer-traders and one trader. Representative garment makers such as Denim Attires, Pacific Jeans and Denim Expert focus on jeans, bottoms, jackets or related apparel, while Chittagong Denim Mills and Pioneer Denim also show fabric capability. For a new program, buyers should typically separate garment-making requirements from fabric-development requirements. A factory that can cut, sew and wash jeans is not automatically the right source for custom denim construction, and a fabric mill is not automatically set up for finished private-label garments. Ask which processes are owned, which are subcontracted, and whether sampling, laundry, finishing and testing happen on the same production route.
Plan MOQ and development around denim complexity
Among the suppliers publishing minimums, the largest group is above 1,000 units, followed closely by the 201–500 range. Denim Attires, for example, lists an MOQ of 2,000 units. Lower published minimums do exist in the broader set, but they are less common than higher-volume programs. In our experience, denim development typically becomes more demanding when buyers add custom washes, multiple fabric weights, special trims, embroidery, distressing or separate fits by gender. Confirm whether the MOQ is per style, wash, color or total purchase order, and request a development calendar that separates fabric approval, fit samples, wash standards, pre-production approval and bulk production.
Audit wash, fabric and compliance controls
Bangladesh denim suppliers in this set show extensive certification coverage: amfori BSCI appears at 37 suppliers, Sedex at 34, GOTS at 30, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 at 25, WRAP at 23, ISO 9001 at 21 and GRS at 17. Representative suppliers also show LEED, Cradle to Cradle, ISO 14001 and recycled-content standards. Buyers should typically verify both the certificate and its scope, because a group may operate several facilities. For jeans specifically, ask for wash-lab controls, restricted-substance testing, shade consistency standards, shrinkage targets, dimensional-stability results and records for chemical management. If organic or recycled claims matter, traceability should be checked from material input through finished garment.
Cost drivers and negotiation points
Denim pricing is typically driven by fabric composition and weight, yarn and stretch content, wash recipe, finishing time, trims, labor intensity, order size and rejection tolerance. Stretch denim, specialty fibers, coatings, laser effects and complex garment washes can materially change unit cost even when the base silhouette is simple. Compare quotations on a like-for-like specification, including fabric source, wash standard, zipper and button quality, labels, packing method and testing. Buyers should also agree how sample charges, development failures, excess fabric, shade bands and wash rejections are handled. For recurring programs, negotiate around forecast visibility and repeatable blocks rather than focusing only on the lowest initial unit price.
Logistics and production follow-through
Bangladesh denim orders are typically export programs, so buyers should build freight and customs planning into the production calendar rather than treating shipment as the final step. Representative suppliers in the dataset sell into Europe, North America and other global markets. Confirm the agreed Incoterm, carton dimensions, packing lists, origin documents and who is responsible for export clearance. Because denim is weight-sensitive, freight mode can materially affect landed cost. Before bulk shipment, use an approved size specification, wash standard and inspection plan, then compare production against the approved sample. For long lead programs, schedule milestone checks around fabric readiness, cutting, washing, finishing and final inspection instead of relying on a single pre-shipment review.
Questions to ask before you sample
- What denim products and fabric constructions do you make in-house, and which processes are subcontracted?
- Is your MOQ applied per style, fabric, wash, color or total purchase order?
- Can you provide current certificates for the exact facility that will make our order?
- What wash-lab, shrinkage, shade-consistency and restricted-substance controls do you use?
- What are the sample, pre-production and bulk lead times for our specific wash and trim package?
- Which Incoterm, inspection standard, packing method and export documents will apply to the order?
