Sourcing hosiery and tights from Turkey: what to know
Reviewed guide · updated 16 Sept 2026SupplySpark lists 78 hosiery and tights manufacturers in Turkey, and 74 percent of them carry independent evidence from registries, customs data or verified reviews, a high rate for a Turkish apparel category. Istanbul holds 66 listings. Turkey is typically ranked among the largest sock exporters in the world, and this guide covers the cluster, machinery and finishing, minimums, certifications and vetting practice for socks, pantyhose and tights.
Where hosiery is made
Istanbul accounts for 66 of the 78 listings, and the page counts 58 manufacturers, 8 manufacturer and trader hybrids, 4 traders and 2 manufacturer-exporters. Representative suppliers such as Bolero Çorap, D-DK Çorap and BEKS Çorap are dedicated sock houses in Istanbul, while Bony Tekstil operates from Kapaklı in Tekirdağ, which in our experience belongs to the industrial belt west of the city where larger knitting plants sit. Unlike many Turkish categories, hosiery is a specialist industry rather than a category extension, so most listings are genuine knitters. Pantyhose and tights are a narrower capability than socks; Bony lists both, but confirm fine-gauge circular knitting for legwear separately.
Machinery, yarns and finishing
Sock quality is determined by the machine and the yarn. D-DK cites Lonati single-cylinder and Bentley Komet double-cylinder machines, the industry standard pairing for plain and for ribbed or patterned socks respectively. Ask the needle count, typically 96 to 200 for socks, and whether the toe is closed by linking, seamless knitting or Rosso seaming, which D-DK also lists. Yarns range from combed cotton and bamboo viscose to merino, and Bolero, D-DK and BEKS hold Responsible Wool Standard for wool programs. Boarding on ironing moulds, antibacterial or aloe vera finishes and cushioned soles are separate specification lines. ACTİV TRADE also produces graduated compression socks at 15 to 20 and 20 to 30 mmHg, a capability that needs its own pressure testing.
MOQ and lead times
Only 13 of the 78 suppliers publish a minimum: 5 accept 50 units or fewer, 4 sit between 51 and 200, 3 between 201 and 500 and 1 between 501 and 1,000, while ACTİV TRADE publishes 500. In our experience the published figure is per style and real minimums are set per color and per size because each combination needs a machine changeover, so expect 300 to 500 pairs per style and color on a dedicated design and lower figures on stock constructions with your label. Sampling typically takes two to three weeks and bulk four to six weeks. Private label is offered by 54 suppliers and OEM by 50, with 31 offering ODM designs from their own libraries.
Certifications
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is held by 21 suppliers and GOTS by 19, followed by amfori BSCI at 13, Sedex SMETA at 12, ISO 9001 at 11, OCS at 10, and ISO 14001 and GRS at 9 each. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is the baseline retailers require for socks and tights, and Bony additionally holds OEKO-TEX STeP, which audits the production site rather than the product. GOTS applies to organic cotton socks and requires a transaction certificate per shipment. For merino programs ask for RWS. Compression claims should be backed by a pressure test report rather than a textile certificate.
Cost drivers, vetting and logistics
Unit price typically moves with yarn type and count, needle count, cushioning, pattern complexity, finishing treatments and packaging, where hangers, bands and multipacks are priced separately. Given the high evidence rate, vetting is more about capability than legitimacy: ask for a machine list, a pilling and dimensional stability report, and a reference in your market. Turkish origin hosiery typically enters the EU duty free under the customs union with an A.TR certificate, and road freight reaches Central Europe in three to seven days.
Questions to ask before you sample
- Which knitting machines do you run, with what needle counts, and how many are double-cylinder?
- Is the toe closed by linking, Rosso seaming or seamless knitting, and can I see samples of each?
- What is the minimum per style, per color and per size, and is it lower on stock constructions?
- Which yarns do you hold in stock, and can you provide RWS, GOTS or OEKO-TEX certificate numbers?
- Do you make pantyhose and tights in-house, and on which machines?
- Can you provide pilling, dimensional stability and, for compression, pressure test reports?
- What are sampling and bulk lead times, and what packaging formats do you offer?
